A DVR (Digital Video Recorder) is a device that is used to record and save video footage of different sources. A DVR is used for security cameras with the following protocols: CVBS (old analog) HD TVI, HD CVI and HD AHD security cameras.

DVRs are often used in security and surveillance systems to secure against theft, vandalism and other forms of criminality. The recorders can be connected to different kinds of cameras, such as analog cameras and IP cameras. DVRs most commonly have a hard disk or another storage option for saving and recording footage and it is possible to stream live footage to a monitor or another device.

Some DVRs have an built-in support for extra functions such as movement detection, alarm triggers and remote access. NVRs are often easy to install, can be remotely controlled and configured with the use of a web browser or other software.
